VIPS Fleet Maintenance Program
Overview:
Regular maintenance of police department pool vehicles or seldom used vehicles will increase their lifespan and readiness for deployment. Washing and driving vehicles keeps them from developing “lot rot” which can result in costly repairs or maintenance issues. VIPS may be utilized to conduct vehicle inspections, wash vehicles, and fuel vehicles as needed by the department.
Vehicle Inspection:
Check vehicle for properly inflated tires, headlights, blinkers, brake lights, spotlights, overhead lights, and siren. Remove any objects inside the vehicle that are not attached and throw them away.
Vehicle Washing:
Wash each vehicle on the list once every two weeks.
Vehicle Fueling:
Check fuel VIPS fuel card out from VIPS Coordinator. Once a vehicle gets below 3/4 tank, fuel
All vehicles driven for the purpose of washing, fueling, or maintenance shall have an “OUT OF SERVICE” sign displayed and visible. VIPS shall follow all rules of the road, avoid becoming involved in any calls for service, enforcement activities, and avoid talking on the radio except in an emergency. Drive courteously and responsibly.
